
Competitions
Scandinavian Open is a WSDC registry event. We will be offering Jack & Jill competitions on Saturday and Strictly Swing competitions on Friday.
The Jack & Jill competitions will have the following devitions; Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced , All Star and Sophisticated division. WSDC points will be granted based on the number of competitors in each division. Jack & Jill competitions allow individuals to enter without a partner and demonstrate skills in spontaneous dancing with a variety of partners. Leaders and followers are randomly paired. There will be several partner changes during the preliminary and semi-final rounds. Competitors are scored individually on timing, technique and teamwork. Those scoring the highest will be called back later to dance in a final round. In the final, individuals are randomly paired, then scored as a couple.
Newcomer: Beginner w. less than 1.5 yrs of WCS experience or first-time competitor; have earned no points
Novice: Have earned less than 16 Novice points
Intermediate: Have earned 16 or more Novice points
Advanced: Have earned 30 or more Intermediate points
All Star: Have earned 60 or more Advanced points in the past 3 years
Sophisticated: For dancers of the age of 35 and over regardless of WSDC points
The Strictly Swing competitions are designed to showcase a competitor’s social dance skills with a chosen partner. Competitors enter as a couple for strictly swing. This year we will have the following devitions for Strictly:

Intermediate/Advanced
Open level

Strictly Swing
Our Strictly Swing competitions are designed to highlight skills in spontaneous west coast swing dancing with a chosen partner. Competitors enter as couples and dance to music selected by our competition DJ.
Eligibility To enter Strictly Swing You and your partner must both be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of your parent or guardian to compete. We are offering three (3) divisions. You may choose to enter Strictly Swing as either a “leader” or “follower.” and continue in that role throughout the competition – limited switching of rolls would be permitted. There are no gender restrictions for your chosen role as long as you meet the following criteria. The same partnership cannot dance twice in multiple strictly swing divisions, but a competitor may appear twice with a different partner. Divisions Newcomer/Novice: Both partner’s must be eligible to dance in novice or newcomer Jack and Jill, based on the WSDC Points Registry Advancement Chart – in the specific role they have chosen to dance for SS. neither partner can be eligible to dance in intermediate or above. Intermediate/Advance: At least one partner should be eligible to dance in either Intermediate or Advance Jack and Jill based on the WSDC points registry Advancement Chart – in the specific role they have chosen to dance for SS. but neither partner can be eligible to dance in all stars or champions. Newcomer/Novice strictly and intermediate/advanced strictly partnerships may be of any level combination using the above guidelines. Open: Strictly Swing Competitors may dance in any role they qualify for based on the WSDC Points Registry Advancement Chart. When dancing in your secondary role you may dance no more than one division down from your primary jack and jill role – based on WSDC points registry advancement chart. Two Champions may not dance together in Open Strictly Swing Competition entry may be limited to manage time and event schedule.
